Flowers blooming, birds chirping, warmer mornings, and wet grass, the signs of Spring are all around us. So too is the start of a new baseball season and it was time to scout the pitching prospects from the City Limits crew. Unfortunately (for the pax) we have more Ricky Vaughn’s (pre-glasses) in this crew than we do Nuke LaLoosh’s (post help from Crash Davis). Here’s how it broke down…

Conditions: 55, slight breeze

The Thang: Grab 6 coupons and a bucket of baseballs and hike on over to the baseball fields. Once there, dump 24 baseballs (with mysterious writing on them) and set up bucket supported by coupons at home plate with opening facing pitchers mound. Each pax will grab a baseball in turn, read the exercise written on the baseball, and from pitchers mound, throw toward the bucket. Depending on the accuracy of the pitch, all pax will perform the exercise on the ball for…

10 reps in the bucket

20 reps if the bucket is hit, or (based on performance judgement) if the coupons are hit

30 reps for a wild pitch (no contact with structure)

Total reps equal between 240 (all Nuke LaLoosh’s) or 720 (all Ricky Vaughn’s)

Exercises were (in no particular order)…

Burpees, Merkins, Wide arm merkins, Sphinx push ups, Diamond merkins, Hand Release Merkins, Carolina Dry Docks, Peter Parkers, Lunges, Squats, Tuck Jumps, Broad Jumps, No surrenders, Bonnie Blairs, Mountain Climbers, Plank Jacks, American Hammers, Flutter Kicks, Sit Ups, Sky Ups, Crunchy Frogs, In & Outs, Pulse Ups, and Freddie Mercuries

In the course of the workout 0 balls went in the bucket and 0 others hit the bucket or coupons. Reps equaled at least 690 (somehow we didnt make it the last ball…the Burpee ball).

Pick up balls and hike coupons back to start. Begin COT at 46 min.

  • Kotters to Rerun who made his triumphant return today

YHC tried to infuse a little fun into today’s workout with a different challenge for the pax. It would have been easy to just call 30 of each exercise and have the group moan and groan about the lack of creativity, but by injecting the baseballs and pitching aspect, guys had the opportunity to take the workout in their own hands, and work was getting done. YHC’s challenge to all Q’s is to try something different, stretch yourself beyond the same workout every time you Q. Use the area around you to inspire new ideas and thought, and try to find something fun along the way. Just because it’s hard doesn’t mean it cannot also be fun. Go out there and Tom Sawyer that Q, make it hard, make it fun, and paint the dadgum fence.
