T46X Birthday Workout

The usual mix of sidestraddle hop, Imperial walkers, Don Quixotes, Abe Vigodas, etc. 15-20 reps of each.

The Thang

Yesterday was YHC’s 46th birthday, so we started 1 minute early to get in a 46:00 minute, T46X workout. After running 0.46 mi to the southeast corner of Euclid Square Park, pax paired up for partner work, with one pax from each pair running the interior park loop while the other stayed behind to do 46 reps of a series of exercises:

  • 46 hand-release merkins
  • 46 Peter Parkers (2=1)
  • 46 big boys
  • 46 Freddie Mercurys (2=1)
  • 46 Apollo Ohnos (2=1)
  • 46 lunges (2=1)
  • 46 dips
  • 46 plank jacks
  • 46 burpees

Pax who made it all the way to the end went back through the list in reverse. Most pairs made it back to the Apollo Ohnos. Afterward, pax ran 0.46 mi back to Lincoln and enjoyed coffeteria and donuts.


There’s a lot of social baggage around birthdays. As you get older they’re not supposed to be fun anymore. You’re supposed to dread them and complain about getting another year older and all that. I try to take a different mindset: yes you get older, you may not be able to do everything you once did, but you don’t have to see it as a long decline. You’re only as old as you feel, and working out with all of you helps keep me feeling young — or at least not as old as my actual age might suggest.
