Preblast
It was a beautiful 17℃ in Lincoln Park. The birds were chirping, the breeze was subtle and cool and life seemed in perfect harmony. I was happy as a clam to be QIC today for @ZooCrew. It’s been too long since I’ve been there due to Ironman training. But the race was last weekend and while I didn’t finish (130.6 of the 140.6 total miles got completed), the day was still a success on many levels so I’m taking the win. But with that out of the it’s time to get back with my brothers and bring the pain.
We showed up 6 PAX strong today. We had a special DR guest by our brother @Burgundy from Alabama. So great to have out-of-town PAX visit to see how we get things done in Chicago.
Warm-o-Rama
We kicked things off at the top of the hour with a quick global warming which included SSH, arm circles IC and circle arms IC.
Pre-Thang
Because we had a DR and he’s visiting our most scenic AO, of course we had to take a tour to the lake. So we moseyed to the lakefront but included good morning burpees. Every person we passed we had to say “Good morning” to. If they said “Good morning” back, we all dropped and did 5 burpees. This continued all the way to the lakefront path with stops on the bridges for dips and in the tunnel for wall sits. Once at the lakefront path we did a round of daisy pickers IC to enjoy the view. Not the view of our own crotches but the view of the beach.
Finally, we moseyed back the way we came to the playground for The Thang.
The Thang
This was kept pretty simple but the effort was extraordinary. We divided the six PAX into three groups of two. One group did BTTW presses, another group did tricep dips and the third group did rows using the swings. The effort was a reverse ladder (21-18-15-12-9-6-3) where each group did the respective exercise 21 times, rotated, did the next exercise 21 times, rotated and did the last exercise 21 times. We then met in the middle for 30 seconds of monkey humpers. Rinse and repeat, decreasing the reps by 3. It was @Dante’s (excellent) recommendation that we go down to the last set with 3 reps, otherwise your Q would have stopped after 6.
Mary
Finally we moseyed back to the AO for seven minutes of Mary: 1 minute LBC, 10xZombie Crunch IC, 30xFlutter Kick IC, 10xFreddy Mercury IC, 10xSuper Man IC, 10xDolly IC and finally 3xAmerican Hammer IC.
Words of Wisdom
None really. Just an expression of gratitude for being with other HIMs and being part of a network of amazing guys. Sometimes the greatest gift we can receive is the giving of gratitude toward others.
