The BackBlast:
Heading into Day 2 of this polar vortex, YHC (Your Humble Correspondent) knew he’s have to plan something to keep the men moving and warm. Pre-planning included an EC Ruck w/ RA and myself involved, but later received an early am txt with news of a tired baby meant one was staying home and the only other HC would chill out for an additional hour before meeting the men. LESSON LEARNED : Consistency and Communication matters – Arrived at the AO (Area of Operation) to find another pax had arrived and ended up rucking solo. The EC was posted should have been carried out – I missed a good convo in the gloom.
Men started to roll in, stayed in their cars for as long as possible and this is how it turned ou:
Weather : 2*, (‘Feels like’ -11*). unmentionable wind, kinda sunny
Disclaimer : (weather conditions too – be aware of your body)

- YHC closed w/ praise for the men and their mental toughness to make it out in the Gloom in such unfavorable weather conditions.
- YHC closed w/ a prayer for peace and comfort in a pax’s family matter and thanked SkyQ for the men he is surrounded by and who push him each and every day to be a better man.
Moleskin : Cold temps suck, (-) windchill was no joke. YHC dressed for the occasion, but the triple glove approach (middle layer = rubber hospital gloves) failed him early in the game. Was provided a single hand warmer by a brother and all was well for the remainder of the day. We all have ideas and tricks through experience on how to deal w/ bad weather, but it’s also okay to ask for help. I mighta warmed up by the end, we were moving pretty hard; but frozen fingers would have been a tough distraction until then. We have a whole ‘nother week of this – get prepared! /Kodak Out!
