Red/Green light Merkin Run —>P1 does 2 Merkins while P2 runs. When you complete the Merkins yell partner names and start running.. P2 stops and completes 2 Merkins. rinse/repeat to Thang destination.
Familiarize ourself with running area by combo of dynamic stretches (high knees/butt kicks there & PowerSkips back) and stop to do 5 air squats every 10yds.
As we arrive on the football field, we will split up into teams (Ideally, you want 4PAX per team).
Mimicking The swim Medley Relay, teams will split up “strokes” to each member. In order of stroke or movement exercise..
- BackStroke- back pedal w/ belly touch every 10yds.
- BreastStroke- alternate bear crawl 10yds to side shuffle 10yds.
- Butterfly- Alternate NunLunges to broad jump every 10yds
- FreeStyle- Sprint with belly touch every 10yds.
**Distance for each racer will be goal line to goal line. There and back (200yds).
As racers are going through 200yd movements, Those waiting will start a cumulative Exercise race against the other team(s).
•Teams get to strategically match up the Stroke movement exercise from one of the following exercises to build up reps..
- Bonnie Blairs 2 is 1
- Hand Release Merkins
- Big Boys
- Finish early exercise SquatJacks
•Only one person can do exercises at a time. You can have any PAX order or number of reps your team strategically chooses.
•When your team finishes the movement (medley relay) portion you are then allowed to transition to an easier point/rep exercise (two hand ground touch SquatJump w/hand clap.)
•Race ends when team in last place finishes running portion. Yell, “Stop!”
***We did one 200yd and one 100yd race.

Merkin Mate (3 sets of 5reps)
I was recently watching a Disney movie with my 3yr old a few weeks back called “SOUL.” To give a very brief summary, it’s about a guy in a middle life crisis. Weighing a moment in his life to consider a full time job with benefits or continue striving towards his “purpose in life” to become a big time jazz musician.
FAST FORWARD later on in the movie, he ends up getting on stage and crushing it with an already established and well known musician. He is on a total high.
After the show he is waiting out front with this woman and he excitedly asks, “So what’s next?” She just looks at him and says, “This is it. Same thing tomorrow.” He immediately displays a face of disappointment. She notices and goes on to say.. “I heard this story about a Fish.. This young fish swims up to an older fish and asks, ‘Do you know where the Ocean is?’ The older fish looks around and says, ‘This is the Ocean.’ The Young fish responds, ‘This?! no. THIS is water. I’m looking for the Ocean.’”
I think the purpose of that Fish story was to say, sometimes we are so focused on that exciting moment in the hopefully not too distant future, we forget about all the little moments all around us. We forget that we are already in the ocean, experiencing many just as fulfilling moments every single day. It’s just a question of, are we paying attention?
