The BackBlast:
Always more fun when you bring a buddy for Run Club. At The Weekly Grind, we had that buddy. He just happened to be a 10-lb weighted slam ball. We brought him along for our chain run to the old stomping grounds of F3 Evanston at Mt Trashmore. We goose ran our way through the icy streets of South Evanston, avoiding not only the ice but the frisky squirrels who were out and about after a month-long freeze. HIMs like The Situation, Cheddar & Combine set the pace early and us older fellas (YHC & RG3) did our best to keep up.
After arriving at the Hill, we commemorated the 76th anniversary of the 2nd flag raising at Iwo Jima. Feb 23rd, 1945 was the date and in honor of this historic event, we charged the hill and did 76 team exercises in cadence ranging from burpees to squats. YHC gave the PAX a quick history lesson on the event and talked about the importance of remembering those who came before us and paid the ultimate sacrifice. 6,800+ US servicemen & women lost their lives that day and more than 17,000 Japanese servicemen & women lost the same life. It is still the bloodiest battle in Marine Corps history.
I still continue to be amazed at the men in this group of ours near the lake, we continue to have respectable numbers at all three workouts during some pretty miserable months. I am proud to be a part of this group and see many great things once we all thaw out and get back on some grass. Keep accelerating!
