Conditions: a balmy, high-30s, melted snow, slush, and large puddles…everywhere.
5 PAX joined for an early 40th birthday party for Combine.
Warm-o-rama: SSHs, grass pickers, Abe Vigodas, Don Quixotes, calf stretches, and runners’ stretches
Mosey to pain station.
20x Spiderman merkins followed by 20 elbows-in merkins; IC exercises – plank jacks, mountain climbers, and Bonnie Blairs
Mosey to the snow-covered benches of the turf fields.
40 step ups then a 40 yd snow-strewn dash then 40 step overs then a 40 yd dash then 40 dips then a 40 yd dash then 40 inclined merkins – sensing a 40 theme.
Mosey to check out a surprise from the guys – a giant tire. Because why not? Love these guys.
1 PAX lifted and rolled giant tire while rest of PAX did burpee squat jumps ~15 yds out then lunges 15 yds back, rotating PAX through the tire routine at each turn. Gloves were soaked, hands were cold, said tire was heavy.
Next, we took on some curb merkins starting with one hand on curb one hand on the pavement; then sideways plank walking out and back, and switched sides for opposite arm curb merkins – 40 each arm.
Finished with a little New Found Glory’s (great pop punk band from the 90s/2000s that most never heard of) All Downhill from Here – burpees at the chorus, high knees and butt kickers otherwise.
Some light standing Mary (imperial walkers).
Count-o-rama, Name-o-rama, CoT.
Shared thoughts around turning 40 and what this group has meant to me and both my physical and emotional strength. Reflected on Soren Kierkegaard’s quote that “life can only be understood looking backwards; but it must be lived looking forwards.” Attitude of gratitude for these HIMs.
