The BackBlast:

11 guys (including Pebbles, who doesn’t show up in the Pax count above) showed up on a crisp day to see our east side parks.  Several had already done the Footloose Amazing Race, so they are ready to run for the Park District board!!

Warm Up – 20 SSH, 15 Daisy Pickers, 20 Windmills, 20 Imperial Walkers

Thing – It’s Friday, so that means we’re gonna run.

  1. Run up to Taylor Park (named after Henry Taylor, the first Park District President – not James) and partner up at the top of the hill.  Bear crawl down (20 big boys) and wheelbarrow up (20 burpees for the holder, 20 big boys for the barrow).  Go down the hill and come up again.  Lesson – 1 trip is enough.  And this is a lot harder than when I was 10.
  2. Run to Andersen Park (named after Danish children’s author Hans Christian Andersen – who may or may not be @kodak’s 75th cousin) – 25 decline ‘merkins and 25 heals to heaven.
  3. Jog back to Wreck Center. We skipped Stevenson because there wasn’t enough time leaving exercises on the table.

COT – Continuing the idea of vocation, this past week Michael Collins died.  Collins manned the Command Module “Columbia” while Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin took “Eagle” down to the moon.  Collins (who took many of the first photos of a distant Earth) never seemed to regret not landing on the moon.  He understood his role on the team, which was to retrieve Armstrong and Aldrin from the surface and bring them back alive.  The media’s obsession with fame and glory overlooks how complicated and essential a task that truly was.

Understand your role on the team and do it well.  It can be essential, even if overlooked.
